City Of Ashes by Cassandra Clare Review

Finally! I managed to finish the second book. I also want to say that the reviews i give on this blog is all spoiler free unless stated otherwise so don't worry about me ruining the story for you guys. But since this is the second book of the series, i recommend you to go and read the first one before reading this review because there's still parts that might ruin the first one. You have been warned ;).  I have to admit though, compared to the first book city of bones, this one is much more slow paced. My rating for this book is 4/5 stars, just because the things that are happening in the story is a bit slow and it seems like it's dragging. Overall i really enjoyed this book, didn't disappoint me at all. I mean it is a six series novel so i can't really blame anyone and i wouldn't have loved it as much if the story went flying by too fast. It's just me being picky here.

This book carries on from the first book following Clary after she finds out about her past and gets involved with a lot of dangerous demons and shadow hunters as well as her love life which is quite complicated. There are few plot twists which carries on to the next few series and you won't find out what it is until you carry on but for me, i guessed what the plot twists were already and even though i did so, i was still shocked and surprised. There's moments that's quite depressing for me and i got a bit annoyed (good annoyed...if that makes sense). Really fun to read, loved the characters, especially all the quirky comments from Jace and others at times when it's supposed to be serious. All the characters are so much more than what they are, they are good yet evil, the supposedly evils are not and the ones you hate are just much more hateful than you can imagine.
Clary who's the main female protagonist is sometimes really unpredictable. At certain scenes i just want to take over and decide things for her. The setting of this whole story is brilliantly made, the world of the Downworlders is made so close and connected to the city that it feels so realistic and believable.
Overall it was an easy read and if some of you think the whole series is quite long and still don't know whether to go for it or not then i think you guys should have a go. There are memorable scenes from every book that just sticks to your mind. It's worth the read xx
